SOFT TISSUE MOBILIZATION
Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation - and the Graston Technique - are highly beneficial in helping to stretch soft tissue and recover from scar tissue.
IASTM is often prescribed in situations where patients may suffer from musculoskeletal conditions, or who may be recovering from injury. As the name of this therapy suggests, it revolves largely around the use of different instruments. These can help massage or deliver slight pressure to various areas of the body.
It can help to rearrange soft tissue, also working to help break scar tissue that may accrue through certain injuries. The goal is to help injuries heal quicker and safer – and to ensure patients can get back to the activities they enjoy as soon as possible.
Graston treatments are ideal in helping active people – athletes or manual workers, for example – heal from injuries and conditions that may otherwise require extensive recovery. In many cases, Graston therapy can also help to reduce inflammation, thus negating the need for some pain medication.
Graston treatment is also highly recommended for chronic pain and injury, helping to promote healing and rehabilitation from otherwise debilitating conditions. Crucially, Graston healing through IASTM is superb in attending to particularly intensive injury.
IASTM via Graston uses six round-edged tools that scan and identify areas in need of massage. Once areas for treatment become obvious, the massage portion of this treatment can begin. This involves finding scar tissue, for example, and stimulating such an area to increase blood flow and speed.
Graston treatments can cause some discomfort, though each area of treatment takes a minute or less on average. This tissue mobilization technique is very specialized and takes calculated care – which is why it is important to seek help from a licensed, experienced provider.
